What is roleplaying ?

If you are new to roleplaying, there are concepts that you may find difficult to understand.

Roleplaying games take place primarily in the players heads, rather than on a board. The players take on the persona of another person (a 'character'), and then decide upon the actions of this character in response to external events described by the Games Master and the other players.

The rules are generally loose, and rules decisions are made by the Games Master. The concept is similar to acting, but you decide upon the actions of your character as the story unfolds.

For example, you are playing a valiant knight in medieval Europe, and the Games Master has told you that a young child is being dragged screaming by a rough looking man. You may decide that your character will ignore this, or you may decide that your character will intercede - maybe ask the man what he is doing.
